Rappers have a long history with run-ins with the law. From gang-related activity to substance abuse, rappers seem to get a lot of negative publicity. In what can hardly be described as “celebrity” DUI, Deongelo Holmes ,one half of the rap duo Ying Yang Twins, was arrested last week for Georgia marijuana possession and DUI.
Holmes was busted on June 1 in Duluth, Georgia after officers noticed he could not keep his car in a single lane. Arresting officers noticed that his eyes were glazed and bloodshot and his speech was mumbled, slurred and slow. Holmes failed a field sobriety test, but was cooperative and friendly with the arresting officers. This as reported in TMZ.
Perhaps he was trying to set a good example for his children? Oops, did I mention that? Yes, Holmes was also booked for child endangerment because his two kids, ages 3 and 2 months, were in the car at the time.
The Ying Yang Twins are best known for their 2005 song, "Wait (The Whisper Song)."
There was a time when the Ying Yang Twins were at the top of the rap game, but last week group member D-Roc (Holmes) was arrested.
D-Roc admitted to having a few beers at a friend's house and smoking marijuana earlier in the evening. He was driving with his children who were asleep in the back seat of his 2002 GMC Yukon Denali.
The arresting officer found two alprazolam pills on D-Roc's person, and upon searching the vehicle, the officer also found two grams of marijuana in a grinder.
The duo earned two platinum albums with 2003's Me & My Brother and then again two years later with U.S.A. (United States of Atlanta). The Twins dropped Ying Yang Forever in 2009, but the double disc CD failed to match their previous success.
Last month, the group took it upon themselves to remix Justin Bieber's hit single "Boyfriend."
Hopefully with a good alcohol class and some counseling D-Roc can get sober and become a productive member of society and a responsible father to his two boys.
