The Law

Florida DUI law states a person is considered to be driving under the influence by registering a blood alcohol concentration level of .08% or greater.

The Penalties

• Imprisonment: A maximum of 6 months in jail for a blood alcohol level of .08-.15% and a maximum of 9 months in jail for blood alcohol level above .15%.
• Fines: Between $500-$2,000.
• Impact on License: Revoked for 180 days to 12 months.
• DUI School: Must complete a DUI program.
• Community Service: Required to do 50 hours.
• Vehicle Impoundment: For a period of 10 days.

Florida DUI Education

The type of Florida DUI Course you will need to take depends on whether the DUI is the 1st or 2nd offense. Level I is for first-time offenders and Level is II for multiple offenders.

• Level I course - a minimum of 12 hours of instruction and incorporates didactic and interactive educational techniques.
• Level II course - is a minimum of 21 hours of time. This course focuses on addressing the problems of the repeat offender and treatment readiness, as the majority of students are referred to treatment.

The Solution

To have your license reinstated, be certain you maintain SR22 coverage. This is mandatory under Florida DUI laws. The rules state you will need a minimum of 3 years of coverage so check with your insurance person for the plan that will work best for you.
